By this essay it is intended to analyze the process of development and implementation of the tools Data Warehouse, Data Mart, Information systems, Analysis variable, Measurement variable this in order to learn more about what is business intelligence.

Something very important to mention about the Data Warehouse is that it is not a software, much less a brand or a single database. It is essential to understand the true purpose of the Data Warehouse, since if you do not have full knowledge of its functions, it can create deficiencies when exporting data and analyzing the information, one of the purposes of the Data Warehouse is that it has to focus on the entire company, this means that it must provide information to all areas of the company, especially to the general management.

Another purpose is that its design must be adjusted to changes, since we live in times where information is very volatile and that is why the DATA WAREHOUSE must be prepared to receive these changes.

It must also be designed to massively load the data of the company, these systems are designed mainly for the analysis of information, that is, consultations.

This is how a Data Warehouse is built:

  • Data acquisition: data extraction from internal and external sources
  • Design and storage: creation of the Data Warehouse through data integration.
  • Access: application of orderly and simplified information.

A key part is keeping the information up to date. You must deliver the material at the optimal time, in the correct way and in the correct format.


Many times companies spend more time looking for data than analyzing it, we also find that companies have many different sources of data that need to be analyzed together, in the same way that it is necessary to analyze the same reality from different perspectives, it is necessary to analyze Historical data to compare with current data and see the evolution of the company.

There are different models for the implementation of a Data Mart, these are: Star Model: it is simple and fast, it is used for multidimensional analysis. It allows access to data and its details, it is the option with the best performance and speed since it allows to record the dimensions individually without affecting the database as a whole.

Snowflake Model: as the dimension tables are standardized, data redundancy is avoided and thus space is saved.

This makes the flagship model the most used for its efficiency and simplicity when handling.


Every person, throughout his life is constantly receiving a large amount of data, this is not alien to a company since the company is constantly generating and collecting data in a massive way, although much of the data it generates has no meaning for However, there is a part of these data that is extremely important to the company in order to know the market, the environment, etc.

  • Human resources information systems (HRIS): this stores and collects information from the human resources area in order to transform it and distribute it to the company’s employees.
  • Management systems for managers (SDD): this provides managers with general information about the company, this in order to know how the company is working. Internal fonts and environmental fonts are used.

Information systems today are too important, but if it is about the implementation of one within the company, they fulfill a specific role, and this helps the company distribute and provide information at the right time, this has repercussions in the quality of services and products, in addition to greatly influencing decision-making.
